How did you and Nathan come to working together?
Well as luck would have it, when Nathan hopped on board a small fishing vessel bound for Australia, and fled Sri Lanka due to the civil war, he stepped off that boat feeling a little sea sick. Lucky for him I was down on Bondi beach having a morning swim and noticed his skinny frame washing ashore. I said to my girlfriend, "Check out that poor Sri Lankan man, he's turned white he's so sea sick." It wasn't until after I’d nursed him back to health and heard his amazing story that I realised he was actually half Sri Lankan, half Irish (hence the white skin, red beard!!!) and that he had a pretty great eye for filming things.
How does the dynamic between you work?
Me throwing a lot of shoes against his window to wake him up most mornings! But we're really both on the same page in terms of the overall aesthetic we want to produce and have a nice balance of ideas. I think we both just want to have fun, push boundaries and grow as individuals with every new project, which in turn creates an easy working relationship.
What inspires you?
Routines, rituals and everything in between.
3 words to describe yourself…
Pasta, sushi, pho.
Something we may not know about you?
I'm really a painter.
Whose work do you admire / influences your own?
Matisse's colour, Wes Anderson's characters, Jim Jarmusch's story.
Dream film project?
A big cash cheque, fun crew, amazing actors, exotic locations and a dynamite script!!!
